correspondent dr. sanjay gupta. he is joining us now. now, sanjay, you have been taking a very close look, potentially at the mind of a killer. >> yeah, and that question, why, wolf that you ask, it is hard to say for sure whether there is ever going to be a satisfactory answer to that. but there are several things that medical experts and investigators are going to look at, including specific patterns. we looked at ten of the most widely studied cases, tragedies, i should say in history. and take a look at what we found. first thing you notice when you look around newtown, everyone has that questioning look, why? what did we miss, if anything? no answers yet. just hindsight. to try to make some sense of the tragedy here in newtown, be connecticut, medical investigators are also looking at evidence of patterns, not talking about clothes or even life-style, but rather looking for evidence of specific plans could give some clues as to what was happening in the person's mind and in their brain. it is hard to know, because thankfully, there are relatively few tragedies like this one. but a cl

us what police say they have led up to the violence. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, tori. in the last half hour homicide investigators arrived here on the scene. right now they are on the backside of the building. starting to collect evidence. what we do know is that the stabbing happened while a party was going on at one of the businesses that you see right there. it's called the agency. just after 3:00 this morning police were called to the photography business on oakland road. officers say a party with about 30 minute was going when a fight broke out and a man got somebodied in his stomach. he was rushed to the hospital where he died shortly there after. >> we got several witnesses that are taking the police officer. >> musers says that were sever witness that left the scene while they arrived. one guest told us it was a graduation party. officers say the man who died was in his 30s. his identity is not been released yet. officers when we spoke with them, they were not sure if the actual stabbing happened inside the business or if it happened outside in the parki

it is the gas tax that goes to building roads and highways that people use every day but not realizing that they are paying for that. a variety of other things that people use that the tax system paid for but not realizing that connection. so the whole idea you bring up, stephen, that you believe that -- to connect the taxes they are paying with what they are getting in some respects, i agree with you and that is one of the challenges. on the first point, i take exception to you saying that my request for raising the cap on social security is a knee-jerk reaction. knee-jerk reaction is a description of somebody just sort of making a decision without thinking about it. i have put a lot of thought on the issue. you and i may disagree on the best solution but i put a lot of thought into it and i think it is the best solution. it may be a solution i am not successful at achieving in terms of a final deal. but if you want to look at the long-term solvency of social security, it is a great way to address it. >> -- host: just a few thoughts, first from our facebook page from a viewer. guest:

a few more of the 20 small children and 6 educators taken from us will be laid to rest. we may never know all the reasons why this tragedy happened. we do know that every day since more americans are died of gun violence. we know such violence has terrible consequences for our society. if there is even one thing that we can do to prevent any of these events, we have a deep obligation, all of us, to try. over these past five days, a discussion has re-emerged as to what we might do not only to deter mass shootings in the future but to reduce the epidemic of gun violence that plagues this country every single day. it's encouraging that people of all different backgrounds and beliefs and political persuasions are willing to challenge old assumptions and change long-standing positions. that conversation has to continue, but this time the words need to lead to action. we know this is a complex issue that stirs deeply held passions and political divides, and as i said on sunday night, there's no law or set of laws that can prevent every senseless act of violence in our society. we're going
